Project In Focus

Animal Management Centre, Askham Bryan College

Project Summary:

Aspect 4 worked closely with the employer to provide accurate cost planning and cost management services on a multi-million-pound project at the York campus of Askham Bryan College. The project involved the design and build of a new state-of-the-art animal management facility with adjoining wildlife and conservation area and associated external works, including car park, bus station and turning point – all designed to harmonise with the rural setting and the college’s existing buildings.

This development was the first phase of the college’s forward development plan, transforming the campus and creating a wealth of new opportunities for young people in the North of England and beyond. The two-storey brick and glazed building houses lecture rooms, student and visitor teaching zones, a computer suite, vet nursing facility and hydrotherapy room. There is also a visitor-grade attraction with aquatics, reptiles and nocturnal animals, as well as a cattery, kennels, grooming parlour and housing for smaller animals, more exotic species and birds of prey. Environmental features were a key part of the design to regulate temperature within the buildings, and included wind catchers for natural ventilation, solar panels and solar shading.

Aspect 4 provided reports on both the construction costs and project holistic costs. The project was delivered to a very high standard and the client has provided excellent feedback on the use of the facility.
